What is an Addon Domain?

An “addon domain” is older cPanel terminology for an additional domain hosted within an existing cPanel account. Current cPanel interfaces generally manage these through Domains.

An additional domain can serve its own website and may use a separate document root (the folder containing its website files). Depending on the cPanel version and account configuration, it may also be possible to point it at the primary domain's document root. Check the selected document root carefully before creating the domain.

An additional domain in the same cPanel account is not a separate hosting account: it shares that account's resources, access controls, and service limits. The domain must also use DNS records or nameservers that direct it to the hosting server. Whether your plan permits more domains depends on the plan and server configuration.

The term “addon domain” may still appear in older guides, but look for Domains in current cPanel documentation and interfaces.
