How do I add an Apache handler?

An Apache handler tells the web server how to process a file extension. Most websites do not need a custom handler, and PHP versions are normally selected with the PHP tools provided in cPanel rather than by adding an Apache handler manually.
For PHP websites
Open MultiPHP Manager in cPanel, select the domain, and choose a PHP version supported by your hosting plan and application. The exact versions shown depend on the server. Check your application's requirements before changing versions, and test the site afterward.
When a custom handler is needed
Only add a handler when your application or hosting provider gives you the exact extension and handler value. Menu names and permissions vary by server, and an incorrect handler rule can prevent a site from loading. If the Apache Handlers tool is not available, ask your hosting provider before editing server configuration.
Before changing rules in .htaccess, save a copy of the current file so you can restore it if the site returns an error.
